How we value our staff

CCC acknowledges that there is a national shortage of qualified mental health nurses and suitably qualified healthcare professionals and seeks to overcome this via its recruitment and retention strategy.

CCC’s Recruitment and Retention Strategy key areas are as follows;

  • to provide specialist training to all new starters so they can meet the needs of the service user group and personally develop
  • to offer market competitive employee benefits such as; free staff meals, paid breaks, on-site parking, pension, annual and sick leave above statutory levels, enhanced overtime rates
  • to engage with local universities and offer nursing placements as well as a highly competitive preceptee nurse training programme
  • the opportunity to progress their career within a small but growing organisation with ease of access to the senior management team
  • a personalised induction programme that ensures close supervision, appraisal and informal guidance is offered by a more experienced member of staff
  • higher staffing levels than benchmark service competitors improving working conditions
  • to develop a number of ‘Champion Roles’ where staff can receive additional specialist training relevant to the role
  • an employee reward scheme that promotes ‘going the extra mile’ for their colleagues and service users

Our Preceptorship Programme

“Through preceptorship we must strive to nurture and develop our new registrants to develop life long careers in nursing” (Anna Keen, from DoH, 2009).

  • Our comprehensive preceptorship package is designed around:
  • Department of Health Preceptorship Framework (2009)
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council Preceptorship Guidelines (2006)
  • Recent literature

The structured framework allows nurses to develop as they find their feet within the field. We have 16 core competencies which our preceptor’s will guide new nurses through over the six month period. Once preceptorship is completed, nurses will gain a pay rise and will complete a small project aimed at improving our service, ensuring continuous review of practice. We also offer protected time for monthly CPD, supervision and peer support plus other benefits.
